Learning outcomes: • knowledge of the current state, trends of development and the modern methods for diagnostics of NPP equipment; • knowledge of basic methods and means for control the technical state of equipment and systems of nuclear power plants; • knowledge of types of diagnostic systems of NPP equipment; • ability to analyse the work of the power unit, to make decisions on technical diagnostics of NPP equipment, to evaluate technical diagnostic indicators; • ability to choose methods and means for control and to diagnose the main technological units and systems of the NPP.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: • Auxiliary equipment and pipelines of nuclear power plants; • Operative control of the power unit of nuclear power plants. Co-requisites: • Emergency processes and safety systems at nuclear power plants; • Exploitation of nuclear power plants; • Operation of the service life and decommissioning of nuclear power plants.
Summary of the subject: Types of defects of constructions of nuclear power plants and the degree of their potential danger. Methods of diagnosing the equipment of nuclear power plants. Control of the technical state of the equipment of the nuclear power plant. Methods and means of non-destructive testing and diagnostics. Destructive methods of control. Reactor monitoring and diagnostics systems. Control systems for equipment and pipelines metal. Control systems for thermal mechanical equipment and pipelines. Control systems for fuel overload and storage.
Assessment methods and criteria: • oral questioning, written essay, presentation (30%) • final control (control measure - exam): written and oral form (70%)
