Learning outcomes: • knowledge of types and sources of ionizing radiation, its basic properties and characteristics; • knowledge of ionizing radiation doses, the objects, the tasks and the methods of dosimetry, basic technical characteristics of dosimetry; • ability to select reasonably and to apply varieties of dosimetric devices; • ability to apply the methods of protection against ionizing radiation and the other types of radiation; • ability to solve the problems of radiation safety and radiation protection.
Required prior and related subjects: • Operation of technological equipment for water treatment and radioactive waste • Non-stationary processes in nuclear reactors • Diagnosis of technological equipment for water treatment and radioactive waste
Summary of the subject: Types and sources of ionizing radiation. Basic properties and characteristics of ionizing radiation. Doses of ionizing radiation. Objects, tasks and methods of dosimetry. Types of dosimetric devices. Protection from ionizing radiation. Problems of radiation safety and features of radiation protection. Radiation safety rules and regulations.
Assessment methods and criteria: • oral questioning, written essay, presentation (30%) • final control (control measure - exam): written and oral form (70%)
