Learning outcomes: • knowing the most common types of synthetic rubbers, technological features of its production, properties and applications; • be able to plan and organize technological processes of rubber obtaining, grounding and choosing the optimum conditions of these processes; • understanding the principles of creation of technological schemes of synthetic rubbers synthesis.
Required prior and related subjects: • Organic chemistry. • Physical chemistry of polymers.
Summary of the subject: Definition and classification of synthetic rubber. Methods of obtaining, properties and application’s fields of rubber. Polymerization in mass. Polymerization in emulsion, mechanism and process facilities. The main representatives of industrial rubbers. Derivation and main types of synthetic latex. Synthetic rubbers for special applications. Vulcanization of rubber, stages and mechanisms. The main parameters of rubber structural network. Classification and ingredient purpose for rubber blends. The system composition that is vulcanized.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Writing reports from laboratory works, verbal questioning, and control work (20%). • Final control (80% control measure, examination): writing-verbal form (80%).
