Learning outcomes: • know the basic numerical methods for solving complex mathematical problems; • be able to choose the method of numerical solution, to apply the method to applied problem, to estimate the accuracy of the obtained results.
Required prior and related subjects: • Calculus, Algebra and Geometry, Functional Analysis, Programming; • Numerical Methods. P. 2, Numerical Methods of Mathematical Physics.
Summary of the subject: Numerical solving systems of linear algebraic equations (direct and iterative methods), convergence investigation of iterative methods. Methods for solving nonlinear equations and systems of nonlinear equations (method of bisection, method of successive approximations, Newton's method, metod of chords). Interpolation and numerical differentiation. Numerical integration (quadrature formulas of Newton-Cotes, Gaussian quadrature), error of quadrature formulas.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control (40%): surveys on practical and laboratory classes, written reports on laboratory work, individual homeworks, colloquia. • Final control (60%): exam.
