Learning outcomes: - ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of main approaches to the essence of international and european security, the ability to characterize basic concepts and categories of international security, to identify specific problems of states which are important in selecting their particular security strategy; - knowledge of basic parameters and types of international security systens, and ability to characterize the system of collective security and its main elements, problem of its providing in international environment; - knowledge of main actors of ensuring of international and European security; - understanding the nature of main threats to international and European security and ability to identify main factors of influence and security challenges; - knowledge of the essence of economic security and features of economic threats; - understanding of security in information space and the ability to identify methods and opportunities of ensuring of information security; - knowledge of main types and structure of international organizations in the security sphere, ability to evaluate the role and importance of military and political organizations, including NATO, in the ensuring the international and European security; - understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of ensuring the Ukraine’s national security; - ability to identify and analyze issues of ensuring the Ukraine’s national security, to analyze specifics of formation of the modern system of international and European security and to determine Ukraine’s place in it.
Required prior and related subjects: • Pre-requisites: Theory of International Relations, International organizations, Foreign Policy of Ukraine. • Co-requisites: Current Problems of Ukraine's Foreign Policy and International Relations.
Summary of the subject: Security dimension of international relations. The main threats to the international security. Role of international organizations in maintenance of peace and security. North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO): the implementation of the collective security system. European security and problems of its providing. Modern challenges to the international and European security. Ukraine as a subject and object of international security.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control (40% - oral examination, reports, discussions, writing essays, case-study research, preparation of presentations on a given topic). • Final control (60% - examination - three-level testing).
