Learning outcomes: - to know the modern physical and chemical analysis of recovery methods of chemicals and metals production; structure and multicomponent metal melts; physical and chemical properties of melt methods; mechanisms and kinetics of interfacial interactions in heterogeneous systems; - able to simulate the physical and chemical processes of metallurgical production in order to find the best options for their management; use the fundamental physical and chemical laws for explaining and systematization of metals and oxide melts phenomena; apply the achieve of physical and chemical sciences for creation of new materials.
Required prior and related subjects: - pre-requisite: physics, chemistry, physical chemistry, mathematical analysis; crystallography; metallurgy. - co-requisite: physical properties of materials; foundry production; surface treatment and recovery wares; alloys with special properties, nonferrous metals and alloys.
Summary of the subject: Using of thermochemical and thermodynamic calculations for analyzing of metallurgical processes. The theory of dissociation and strength chemical compounds. Analysis of recovery of chemical compounds. Statistical theory of solutions. The structure and physical properties of metal and oxide melts. The mechanisms and kinetics of important metallurgical reactions.
Assessment methods and criteria: - Current control (40%), individual tasks; laboratory works; presentation of reports; - Final evaluation (60%) exam.
