Learning outcomes: - to know of the theoretical foundations of surface treatment, enhancement and recovery wares, phase, structural and energy transformation in the surface layers under the influence of various factors; - be able to make the best choice of the details and methods for surface treatment or recoveryt, propose the optimum conditions and to control the quality of the product after processing.
Required prior and related subjects: - pre-requisite: metallurgy, physical chemistry, theory of the structure of alloys, heat treatment, heat and mass transfer theory, physical and chemical bases of metal production; - co-requisite: non-ferrous metals and alloys, corrosion and corrosion protection
Summary of the subject: Theory of chemical and thermal processing. Classification of surface treatment methods. Physical and chemical processes which are occur with surface treatment and recovery wares. Strengthening by thermal methods. Surface treatment by cryogenic methods. Carbonization, nitriding, cyanidation, boriding, chroming of steels. Saturation steels by complex compounds. The intensification of the processes of diffusion saturation of steels. The process of plasma spraying and surfacing. Strengthening treatment by electroarc, pulsation, detonation and spraying. Electrical discharge and laser processing. Ion implantation. Strengthening treatment by Friction. Strengthening by energy explosion.
Assessment methods and criteria: - Current control (40%), individual tasks; laboratory works; presentation of reports; - Final evaluation (60%) exam.
