Learning outcomes: - to know the basic information about the non-ferrous metals and alloys to justify the selection and prediction of properties for various structural elements; predict the impact of various factors on the structure and properties of non-ferrous metals; - be able to exercise choice of colored metal appoint thermo-mechanical processing required for optimal set of physical and mechanical properties and ensure long life and reliable operation of the product; analyze the phenomena that occur during the operation of the product, non-ferrous metals and alloys.
Required prior and related subjects: - pre-requisite: physics, chemistry, physical chemistry, metallurgy, heat treatment. - co-requisite: physical properties of materials; foundry production; surface treatment and recovery wares; alloys with special properties.
Summary of the subject: Classification of non-ferrous metals and alloys. Copper alloys. Aluminium and its alloys. Characteristics of the classification of aluminum alloys. Formation of titanium as an important structural metal. Doping, phase composition, classification, mechanical properties, marking titanium-based alloys. Physico-chemical properties and metallurgy beryllium. Characteristics, properties and classification of magnesium and its alloys. Non-ferrous metals, resistant to temperature working environment. Noble metals. Refractory metals - characteristics, application.
Assessment methods and criteria: - Current control (30%), individual tasks; laboratory works; presentation of reports; - Final evaluation (70%) exam.
