Learning outcomes: be able to choose a biocompatible alloy that will provide the necessary properties of medical products; be able to select and calculate basic physical-mechanical and operational characteristics; be able to choose the material for a medical product, taking into account all operational characteristics; to choose scientifically substantiated and most effective technological processes of production of biomedical products.
Required prior and related subjects: Materials science. Technology of structural materials. Theory of the structure of alloys.
Summary of the subject: Biomaterials, their functions in a living organism and basic requirements for application in medicine. Materials for bone surgery and dentistry and products from them. Materials and products for cardiovascular surgery. Materials for cellular engineering. Artificial organs and materials for their construction. Therapeutic and diagnostic tools and materials for the delivery of bioactive substances. Biomicroelectromechanical systems and materials for their manufacturing. Auxiliary biomaterials: adsorbents, absorbents and antibiotics. Imitation of life through imitation of biosystems. Methods of study of biocompatible properties of biomaterials.
Assessment methods and criteria: written reports on laboratory work - 20 points; abstract and presentation on the topic of the lecture - 20 points; final examination (examination) - 50 points, oral examination part - 10 points.
