Learning outcomes: By the end of the study learners are expected: - to know major principles, methods, ways, and techniques of oral and written translation; principles of analyzing lexical, stylistic, and grammatical transformations in translation of specialized and artistic texts; grammatical structures necessary for comprehension and translation of a wide range of academic and professional texts; - to be able to effectively apply major techniques of oral and written translation; translate oral and written texts from Ukrainian and English taking into account their stylistic, lexical and grammatical peculiarities.

Summary of the subject: The aim of the discipline is to deepen students’ knowledge on Thory and Practice of Translation. The following aspects are expected to be covered in the course of studying: text and discourse as main notions of text analysis, lexical and semantic means of coherence and cohesion, defining repeatitions and creating a system of bonds in a text, official and legal documents through the prism of discourse analysis and translation, media texts through the prism of discourse analysis and translation, artistic texts through the prism of discourse analysis and translation, gender analysis of text and its importance for translators, communicative approach to text analysis in translation, main transformations in translation, translation of political texts and the notion of political correctness. Mastering the discipline presupposes accumulation and actualization of knowledge and skills on Translation Studies, expanding knowledge of terminology and intense activization of lexical units accumulated at previous stages of the studying process.
