Learning outcomes: • know the theoretical foundations of environmental biomonitoring; • know the basic methods of organizing and conducting biological monitoring of air, water and soil; • know the principles of modern environmental regulation of anthropogenic impact on the environment based on biological criteria; • be able to choose the method, objects and points of sampling for biological monitoring.
Required prior and related subjects: • Environmental monitoring; • Biology; • Basics of microbiology; • Ecotoxicology.
Summary of the subject: Subject and the theoretical base of the course. The monitoring system, the main stages of work during carrying out the biomonitoring. Biotesting. The main approaches to the use of morphology and genetics of organisms in biomonitoring. Biomonitoring of air pollution using plants. Plants-indicators and plants-monitors. Methods for determining the quality of water and soil by living organisms. Types of biological diversity of organisms, ecological groups of organisms in relation to various environmental factors, basic methods of their assessment.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control, oral examination (30%) • Final control (control measure, exam), written-oral form (70%)
