Опис: The course "General microbiology and virology" covers the main issues of modern microbiology according to the training program for biotechnological students. The presentation of the material begins with a short historical essay on the discovery of microorganisms and the development of microbiology. The place of microorganisms in the living system, their structure and chemical composition, nutrition, cultivation methods, and the influence of environmental factors are considered. The diversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, their modern taxonomy, distribution in nature is presented. Features of energy and constructive exchanges of microorganisms, mechanisms of regulation of these processes, as well as possible ways of using microorganisms and products of their metabolism for practical purposes are highlighted. Considerable attention is paid to the genetics of microorganisms as a basis for obtaining strains valuable for the biotechnological industry. The material of the last chapters is devoted to the relationship between micro- and macroorganisms, individual pathogenic microorganisms and the infectious diseases they cause are described.

Summary of the subject: Choose the subject from the list of the course work in VLE or choose another (coordination of the topic name of the CW with the teacher is mandatory). Study literary sources. Introduce the CW according to the following scheme: Title page; Contents, which contains the Introduction, the Main part with Sections and Subsections; Conclusions; List of sources used, as well as the numbering of pages where they are. If necessary, make a List of abbreviations after the content. The work begins with an Introduction, on a separate page - The Main part, which presents selected, processed and systematized material from literary sources. After each using in the text a piece of information should indicate its source from the list of sources in square brackets, for example, [1], [2,3,4]. The numbering of literary sources in the text of the CW is thorough. Similar numbering is in the List of used sources. The work should contain drawings, photographs, diagrams, tables, schemes that illustrate the theoretical part. Their numbering is also thorough. At the end of the work conclusions are made and a list of sources used is given. Each of these sections begins on a separate page. After registration of the work the student makes a presentation on the topic of CW. The first page should contain the name of the CW, the name of the student who did the work, his group and the name of the teacher who took the job. Next are slides with a laconic presentation of the processed material. Slides numbers are required! Photographs, drawings, diagrams, etc. are used on the slides for greater visibility. At the end, separate slides provide conclusions and a list of sources used. Slide with the inscription "Thank you for attention!" is dispensable.
