Characteristics of the educational program: 90 ECTS credits, duration of study 1 year 4 months.
67 credits (74%) of the educational programme are aimed at obtaining general and special (professional) competences in the speciality defined by the Higher Education Standard.
The educational and professional programme is based on well-known provisions and results of modern scientific research in biotechnology and bioengineering and is focused on training personnel who will be able to use living objects at a high professional level to obtain drugs and products by methods of biological synthesis and/or biotransformation for the needs of medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, food industry, ecology, energy, light industry, etc.
The Master's degree programme is multi- and interdisciplinary and provides general education in the subject area of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering, and specialised education in the speciality 162 Biotechnology and Bioengineering. The emphasis is on the ability to carry out innovative activities in the implementation and improvement of biotechnology and bioengineering solutions at Ukrainian enterprises of various forms of ownership and legal forms. As part of the research component, the programme aims to develop technologies for the production of biologically active substances using biological agents of plant, animal and microbial origin.
The peculiarity of the EPP is that applicants master the theoretical foundations and practical applications of modern methods of developing projects for the production of biotechnological products for the needs of various industries.
Gained competence: – to know domestic and international legislation in the field of copyright. Be able to protect one's intellectual property and avoid violations of the intellectual property of others;
– to know the molecular organization and regulation of gene expression, replication, recombination and repair, restriction and modification of genetic material in proto- and eukaryotes, the strategy of creating recombinant DNA for purposeful construction of biological agents;
– to know and evaluate the main methodical methods of cultivation of eukaryotic cells of animal and plant origin, to develop new technologies for their use in scientific purposes, medicine, agriculture, etc.;
– communicate freely orally and in writing in national and foreign languages, discuss with specialists and non-specialists the results of research, innovation and/or management of production and biotechnology;
– to analyze and take into account in practical activities the trends of the scientific and technical development of society and the biotechnological industry;
– formulate and evaluate requirements, justify raw materials, materials and semi-finished products in accordance with the conditions of biotechnological production, taking into account technological and other uncertainties;
– analyze the content and conditions of foreign trade contracts, evaluate and analyze them;
– evaluate, analyze and choose options for managing complex biotechnological processes, taking into account goals, limitations, forecasts and risks.
– be able to perform a patent search, find and process the necessary scientific and technical information; independently file an application for an invention;
– carry out technical and economic calculations of design and construction solutions and analyze and evaluate their effectiveness, ecological and social consequences in the short- and long-term perspective;
– be able to choose and apply the most suitable methods of mathematical modeling and optimization when developing scientific and technical projects;
– have the skills to isolate, identify, store, cultivate, and immobilize biological agents, optimize nutrient environments, choose optimal methods of analysis, isolation, and purification of the target product, using modern biotechnological methods and techniques inherent in a certain direction of biotechnology;
– to plan and manage research, scientific and technical and/or production projects in the field of biotechnology, based on modern trends in the development of science, technology and society;
– to be able to develop, justify and apply methods and means of protecting people and the environment from dangerous factors of man-made and biological origin;
– implement the most effective biotechnological methods and techniques in practical production activities based on the assessment of the effectiveness of advanced biotechnologies and taking into account the general trends in the development of the latest biotechnologies in leading countries;
– be able to draw up production, technological and analytical documentation for biotechnological products of various purposes;
– have skills in developing and implementing marketing programs and strategies, analyzing and evaluating options for promoting biotechnological products to the consumer, setting optimal prices for them.
- be able to apply modern concepts in the field of modelling, scaling and validation of biotechnological production in the GMP system.
- use the legal framework of research and legislation of Ukraine in the field of nature protection and biosafety of biotechnology and organisation of an effective personnel management system in accordance with labour safety requirements.
- ability to communicate, including oral and written communication in Ukrainian and foreign languages (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish and others);
- ability to use a variety of methods, including modern information technology, for effective communication at the professional and social levels.
