Learning outcomes: • know the technology of electricity production in systems with alternative sources of electricity; • know the purpose, functions and properties of relay protection devices of elements of electrical networks - power lines, transformers; • know the specifics of calculating the parameters of the relay protection and automation (RZA) of solar and wind power plants; • be able to use relay protection devices at solar and wind power plants; • be able to calculate the parameters of operation of relay protection devices of solar and wind power plants.
Required prior and related subjects: • Higher mathematics; • Fundamentals of the theory of automatic control and principles of construction of SAC.
Summary of the subject: Alternative Energy Sources. Fundamentals of relay protection. Protection of power lines. Transformer protection. Automatic backup power on. Automatic frequency unloading. Automatic restart. Failure backup failure devices for power plant switches. Solar power plant protection systems. Wind power plant protection systems.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory and calculation works, oral questioning (30%) • final control - exam: written and oral form (70%)
