Learning outcomes: • know the basic knowledge of fundamental sciences, to the extent necessary for learning of general professional disciplines; • know the chemical structure of medicines, sources and methods of their preparation, the patterns of the relationship between chemical structure and pharmacological properties, methods of identification and quantitative defining, the conditions of storage; • to be able to carry out the synthesis of organic compounds in order to receive starting materials for medicinal substances; • be able to summarize and systematize information about the chemical structure, physical properties, methods of preparation and analysis of current medicine.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: Chemistry 2 (organic chemistry) Co-requisites: Pharmaceutical chemistry, Chemistry and technology of medicinal substances
Summary of the subject: Raw materials for the production of intermediates for medicines, chemicals means for crop protection and other products of fine organic synthesis. Reactions of electrophilic and nucleophilic substitution. Reagents and conditions of the main methods of organic synthesis: sulfonation, nitration and nitrosation, halogenation, alkylation and acylation of amino and hidroxy compounds, oxidation and recovery, condensation and rearrangement reactions. The ways of obtaining interim and final fine chemicals.
Assessment methods and criteria: • current control: written reports on laboratory works, oral questioning, two individual tasks – 30 points; • final control - 70 points (examination): written-oral form.
