Learning outcomes: • knowledge of principles of work the terrestrial and airborne laser scanners, bathymetric systems, physical principles of laser scanning, major manufacturers of scanning equipment and its specifications; • the ability to scan terrestrial laser scanner and to process the data; • the ability to create topographical plans using airborne laser scanning data.

Summary of the subject: Classification of laser scanners. Laser. Components of the laser. The types of lasers. The principle of the laser work. Pulse and phase methods of measuring distances. Basic principles of laser scanning. System configuration. Airborne topographic laser scanners. Laser bathymetric systems. The main factors influence to accuracy of laser scanning. Static terrestrial laser scanners. The general classification. Major manufacturers of equipment. Dynamic terrestrial laser scanners.
Assessment methods and criteria: • reports on laboratory works, computational and graphic works (40%); • exam test: written, oral (60%).
