Learning outcomes: - to know the basic theory of the Earth figure, the external gravitational field and acceleration of gravity field of the Earth, methods for determining the external gravity field and the earth's surface; - to be able to perform gravimetric determination in paragraphs physical surface of the Earth and apply data satellite geodesy measurements for detailed study the figure and external gravitational Earth field; - to understand the main trends and prospects of development of modern physical geodesy.

Summary of the subject: Historical review of development of Earth figure theories. Fundation of potential theory. Types potential attraction. Green and Gauss formulas for potentials. Globe and spherical functions. Legendre polynomials. Decomposition of function, given on sphere, in a series of spherical functions. The use of spherical functions for solutions of limit problems. Basic coordinate systems in the gravitational field of the Earth. Power lines and level surfaces. Normal and anomalous potential. Characteristics of normal and anomalous gravitational Earth field. The anomalies of gravity acceleration and gravity reduction. Determination the anomalous Earth potential by Stokes and Molodenskiy. Stokes and Vening-Meynes formulas. Determination the gravitational field on a physical surface.
Assessment methods and criteria: written reports by laboratory work, oral examination, test (70%); final control (30 %, control measure, exam), written-oral form (30%).
