Learning outcomes: • Get acquainted with the applied application of the most common criteria of the mechanics of destruction of structural materials and structural elements of oil and gas complex objects; • To master the theoretical foundations and methodology of assessing the crack resistance of materials during the action of loads and working environments on them; • Learn the methods of determining static and cyclic crack resistance in laboratory conditions; • To study the basics of methods of processing measurement results and features of metrological support of loading devices and measuring devices.

Summary of the subject: Introduction to the mechanics of the destruction of solid bodies. Basic problems of fracture mechanics. Types of solid body defects. Dislocations and dislocation mechanisms of crack formation. Stress concentration. Kirsch's problem. Stress distribution in and around a spherical cavity. Lame's problem. Criteria of fracture mechanics. Energy criteria. Power criteria. Deformation criteria. Alan Griffiths' Theory of Destruction. Irwin's correction for the plastic zone in front of the crack tip. Sack's problem. Stress concentration coefficients in welded joints with butt and corner seams. General concepts and basic definitions of fatigue of materials. Load variability and its main characteristics. Hard and soft load cycles. Construction of the fatigue curve. Weller's curve. Kinetic diagram of fatigue failure of materials. Principles of construction of KDVR. Complex tense state. The influence of factors caused by welding on the fatigue resistance of materials. Determination of cyclic crack resistance of objects of the oil and gas complex.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory work, oral questioning, examination (30%) • final test (70 %, inspections, and exam): written-oral form (70%)
