Summary of the subject: The concept of "information systems" is used in the name of the discipline because in radio engineering the object of study is radio engineering (radioelectronic) systems and complexes, and in telecommunications - telecommunication systems and networks. The concept of "information systems" unites and represents both radio engineering and telecommunication systems. The program of the study discipline "Signals in information systems" is designed for students of the Institute of Telecommunications, Radio Electronics and Electronic Engineering who are studying in the specialty "Telecommunications and Radio Engineering". This discipline should form students' understanding of the characteristics of signals that provide reception, transmission, processing and storage of information in radio-electronic information systems. On the example of a specific information system, namely the information transmission system, the types of random signals that are formed in the process of converting continuous and discrete messages into digital signals are shown. And for the transmission of digital signals through a communication channel, their conversion into digital radio signals is considered. In this discipline, students study the features, characteristics, and parameters of random signals, deterministic periodic and non-periodic signals, digital signals, and signals formed by modulation of a carrier signal by digital and analog signals. For the formation of digital signals, the task of choosing an appropriate method of encoding source messages between uneven and uniform codes and, accordingly, with different and the same number of binary pulses is shown. The method of selection is based on the connection between the uneven method of coding the source's messages and the informational parameters of the message source. Signals are considered using physical and mathematical modeling. Directions (ideas) for creating new signals are discussed.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current monitoring of students' learning results is carried out using the virtual educational system of the university, in which there is a section "Current monitoring" on the website of the discipline "Transmission of signals in information systems". And also in practical and laboratory classes by checking and reviewing reports on completed individual tasks. Semester control is carried out with the help of a virtual educational system, in which there is an "Exam" section on the website of the discipline "Transmission of signals in information systems". And also through an individual oral and written survey.
