Learning outcomes: As a result of the study a student should know: - characteristics and properties of waves in UHF band and their use in radio and telecommunication systems (RS and TCS); - basic theory of radiation and radio waves sensing with antennas of RS and TCS; - basic characteristics and parameters of antennas in different wavelengths; - features of field formation with the individual emission elements, linear arrays and open planes; - methods and principles of construction of antennas and antenna arrays for different wavelengths; - methods of analysis and synthesis of microwave devices feeder paths, their construction and operating principles. Should be able to: - design specific microwave devices and antennas; - create antenna-feeder paths and antenna arrays (scanning, multibeam etc.); - conduct experimental studies to measure specific elements’ and UHF channels parameters, as well as antennas and antenna systems; - provide EMC requirements for RS and TCS.
Required prior and related subjects: - linear algebra and functions of a complex calculus from mathematics; - electromagnetic waves from physics; - field theory, electrodynamics and propagation; - theory of circuits and signals.
Summary of the subject: Features and basic properties of microwave. The concept of electronics and telecommunication systems and the role of antennas and feeder path in them. Transmission lines of electromagnetic waves, their basicparameters and modes. The principles of harmonization of antenna-feeder paths. The application of network theory to the analysis and synthesis of microwave devices and channels. Elements, components and devices of antenna-feeder paths. Basic electromagnetic principles in antenna theory. Main characteristics and parameters of antennas. Elementary electric and magnetic radiator. Theory of radiation of linear emitter and principles of linear antenna arrays. Theory of aperture antennas, their types. Scanning array (SA) scanning techniques. Synthesis and optimization of antennas. Features of construction of antennas for mobile and global communications systems, ground vehicles and aircraft, communications relays, monitoring systems. The measurement of antennas parameters.
Assessment methods and criteria: - current control: written reports on laboratory works, oral examination; - final control (exam).
