Мета вивчення дисципліни: The purpose of studying the academic discipline is to provide students with the acquisition of basic knowledge, understanding and competences in the analysis of general genetic and molecular genetic processes and phenomena in microorganisms, plants, animals and to reveal their significance in the modern biotechnological process.
Завдання: GK05. Ability to learn and master modern knowledge SK04. Ability to work with biological agents used in biotechnological processes (microorganisms, fungi, plants, animals; viruses; individual components). SK05. The ability to carry out experimental research on the improvement of bioagents, including causing changes in the structure of the hereditary apparatus and the functional activity of biological agents. SK02. The ability to use knowledge about the structural and functional features of the structure of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems of the human body and cellular and genetic manipulations.
Learning outcomes: • be able to conduct experimental research to determine the impact of physicochemical and biological factors of the environment on the viability of cells of living organisms. • be able to carry out basic genetic research to improve and enhance the biosynthetic capacity of biological agents (induced mutagenesis using physical and chemical mutagenic factors, selection and accumulation of auxotrophic mutants, transfer of genetic information, etc.). • be able to justify the choice of biological agent, composition of the nutrient medium and method of cultivation, the necessary ancillary work and the main stages of the technological process methods and methods of cultivation, biosynthesis, biotransformation, bioindication and biotesting of biological objects. • ability to realize the need for lifelong learning in order to deepen the acquired and acquire new professional knowledge.

Summary of the subject: The discipline "Genetics (general and molecular)" forms in students modern ideas about the material and molecular bases of heredity, the laws of inheritance and the principles of heredity, types of variability and the causes of its occurrence, genetic processes at the level of the organism and population, the structure and function of the gene, the molecular organization of genetic processes, mechanisms of preservation, transfer and implementation of genetic information, the importance of genetics as a theoretical basis of breeding and biotechnology, and also introduces students to the main methods of genetic research. As a result of studying this discipline, the student acquires the ability to apply the acquired knowledge in practical activities in the development and provision of technological processes both in traditional biotechnological productions and in the priority directions of modern biotechnology - cellular and genetic engineering of microorganisms, plants and animals, DNA technologies, biotechnology of production biologically active compounds, agrobiotechnology, solving problems of genetic and biological safety.
Опис: Basic genetic concepts. The structure and functions of chromosomes. The laws of heredity. Mendel's laws. Interaction of genes. Mechanisms of sex determination. Linkage groups and crossing over. Patterns of inheritance of cytoplasmic genes. Variability. The process of mutagenesis. Genetic processes at the level of organism and population. The structure and functions of the gene. Features of the genome organization in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Regulation of gene action. The genetic fundamentals of selection. Biological and social heredity. Gene pool care.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control (СC) is carried out during laboratory and practical classes in order to check the level of assimilation of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of the student. СC is conducted in the form of: written and oral express control in practical classes and assessment of student work in laboratory classes Semester control is conducted in the form of an exam (EХ). Examination control covers a written (50 points) and oral (10 points) component.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: • current control: written report on laboratory work, oral questioning, express testing (40 points) • final control: exam - written-oral form (60 points).
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
