Мета вивчення дисципліни: The goal of the discipline is to complete general engineering training of a specialist, to acquaint him with the main technological processes of biotechnological production, to ensure that students master the methods of calculating fermenters and equipment for carrying out pre-fermentation processes, the principles of their modeling and optimization. The task of the discipline is to study the theoretical regularities of fermentation processes and pre-fermentation processes from the point of view of mass and heat exchange, to acquaint students with the structure, working principles and methods of calculation and selection of equipment for the practical implementation of these processes.
Завдання: The study of an academic discipline involves the formation of the necessary competencies in students: - The ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems characterized by the complexity and uncertainty of conditions in biotechnology and bioengineering, or in the learning process, which involves the application of theories and methods of biotechnology and bioengineering. - Ability to use professional knowledge and practical skills to solve specific tasks in the field of biotechnology and bioengineering; - Ability to choose and use appropriate equipment, tools and methods for implementation and control of processes and production of biotechnological products for various purposes. - The ability to draw up hardware schemes for the production of biotechnological products for various purposes.
Learning outcomes: To be able to justify and select appropriate technological equipment and graphically depict the technological process in accordance with the requirements of regulatory documents using the knowledge obtained during independent training. To calculate the parameters of biotechnological equipment based on the analysis of heat and mass exchange processes.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: General Biotechnology (p.1), Processes and Equipment of Biochemical Engineering. Co-requisites: Mathematical Modelling of Microbiological Processes.
Summary of the subject: "Processes and Equipment of Biotechnological Industry" is a discipline of the bachelor's level of training of biotechnologists, belongs to the cycle of professional and practical training, which is designed to provide basic knowledge on the technological implementation of biosynthesis processes and obtaining target substances using microorganisms and other biological objects. This course is one of the defining ones in the preparation of a future biotechnologist. It explains the basics of fermentation processes (stoichiometry of biosynthesis processes, calculation of volumes of fermentation equipment, thermal effects that accompany the biosynthesis of cells and metabolic products, schematic diagrams of fermentation equipment, industrial technologies for the preparation of nutrient media and seed material, as well as equipment for their implementation, etc.) . As a result of training, the student should: know the methods of calculating the material and heat balances of fermentation, determine the necessary characteristics of the main and auxiliary fermentation equipment, equipment for preparing and sterilizing the nutrient medium and aeration air; Know the main designs and wiring of fermenters, materials for their manufacture, coolants and refrigerants used in technological operations; Be able to calculate and choose the necessary fermenter, the method of sterilization of the environment and choose sterilization equipment, calculate the consumption of coolants and aeration air, choose pumping equipment. Based on the knowledge gained during the study of this technical course, the student is able to complete course and diploma projects of the bachelor's level of education. It helps to integrate the knowledge gained from studying such disciplines as "General Biochemistry", "General Microbiology and Virology", "Cell Biology", "General Biotechnology", as well as general education disciplines such as "Mathematics", "Physics", "Physical chemistry" etc.
Опис: Integral stoichiometric fermentation equations. Calculation of periodic and continuous action fermenter tanks volume. Calculations of thermal effects of fermentation. Calculations of fermenter aerators and mixers. Fermenter constructions. Typical piping of the fermenter. Mechanical calculations of fermentation equipment. Prefermentation processes. Heating and cooling of reaction mixtures. Transportation of liquids and solids. Preparation and sterilization of culture medium. Aeration air sterilization. Equipment for surface cultivation.
Assessment methods and criteria: • oral interviews, individual tasks, control works – 40 points. • final control (exam), written-oral form – 60 points (written part 50 points, oral part 10 points).
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to clearly analyze the processes being studied in their relationship and development , succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–80 points – (“very good”) is awarded for knowledge of the educational material of the component above the average level, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions asked (a small number of inaccuracies are possible), the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 79–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70–61 points – (“mediocre”) is awarded for mediocre knowledge of the educational material of the component, poorly reasoned answers, weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 60-50 points - ("satisfactory") awarded for weak knowledge of the component's educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("unsatisfactory" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
