Required prior and related subjects: Previous studies: History of Architecture and Urban Planning, Fundamentals of Landscape Architecture, Design of the architectural environment. Related and subsequent subjects: Universal design, Reconstruction and restoration of architectural objects, Urban planning legislation and documentation
Summary of the subject: The academic discipline "Fundamentals of Urban Planning" (KP) aims to outline the basic principles of the methodology for analysing and planning significant territorial architectural and urban planning objects, designing new settlements in accordance with state regulatory requirements, economic and social demands and provisions for sustainable development of settlements. The aim of the project is to master the methodology of designing a new settlement, integrating into the planning and functional structure of the AH on whose land the facility is planned, in accordance with the global criteria for the formation of the living environment. In the course project, students go through the main stages of preliminary design of a residential settlement with a complex of service and engineering infrastructure. The project is carried out on the basis of a topographic survey of a real territory with an area of 50-100 hectares, for an estimated number of residents from 2000 to 5000 people. The first stage in the design of a new settlement is pre-design research - analysis of the natural conditions and urban planning constraints of the design area; architectural, cultural, ethnographic and historical features of the area and neighbouring settlements, and social specifics. In the context of globalisation, preservation of identity in architectural design is an important factor for Ukraine, with its regional differences. The use of local and regional traditions in architecture should be traced in all components of the new settlement: in the spatial structure, in the organisation of the living environment, and in the architecture of buildings. Pre-design studies resulted in the identification of planning constraints and the potential of the territory. At the second stage of the project, in accordance with the requirements of DBN B.2.2-12:2019 Planning and Development of Territories, the area of residential development of the selected number of storeys and service infrastructure facilities and the number of residents are calculated in accordance with the area of the given plot. The third stage of the course work is the development of design proposals for the functional, planning, architectural and spatial organisation of a new settlement. Based on the results of the previous stages of work, students develop a concept of a viable settlement in accordance with the requirements of balanced (sustainable) development. The sustainable development paradigm includes the requirements of environmental protection, social justice and optimal economic development. The fourth stage of the course work, the Master Plan Scheme drawing, will enable students to master the regulatory requirements and procedure for making drawings of a significant urban planning object and gain practical design skills. While working on this project, students consolidate the theoretical provisions of the studied architectural and urban planning disciplines, learn modern methods and concepts of housing design in Ukraine and abroad and learn to apply them in practice. The discipline prepares a specialist in the field of architecture who will know the regulatory requirements for the design of a settlement for 3-5 thousand people; the criteria for sustainable development of settlements recognised in the world; will be able to design in real conditions and have the skills to complete working documentation for urban planning objects.
