Learning outcomes: • Know the basic knowledge of basic sciences, to the extent necessary for the development of general professional disciplines; • Know the basic knowledge in the field of natural sciences and engineering, necessary for the development of professionally-oriented disciplines; • Know the theoretical foundations of cytology, histology, embryology, physiological patterns of functioning of the human body; • Know the composition and structure of living organisms, cell membranes and the cells themselves.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: Biology of cells, Hygiene and diagnosis of a man Co-requisites: General Microbiology and Virology, Molecular bioligy
Summary of the subject: The chemical composition and structure of cell walls. The cell membranes. The structure of amino acids. Proteins, structure of proteins. Classification of proteins. Classification of lipids. Fatty acids. The functions of lipids. Classification of carbohydrates. The biological function of carbohydrates. Nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids. The structure of nucleic acids. Classification and nomenclature of enzymes. The specificity of enzymes. Regulation of enzymes action. Fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, their role in living organisms. Hormones of humans and animals.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Written reports on laboratory works, two individual tasks – 30 points; • Summary control - 70 points ( control, exam): written-oral form.
