Learning outcomes: • to know the principles of construction and circuit realization of electrical systems, the basic modes of their operation and means of regulation; • to know the devices of systems of automatic control of excitation of synchronous machines, voltage, reactive power, frequency and active power flows; • to know the devices of systems of automatic control of excitation of synchronous machines, voltage, reactive power, frequency and flows of active power; • be able to analyze the modes of operation of the electrical networks and the characteristics of the control systems, to evaluate their impact on the electricity quality indicators; •. be able to analyze the modes of operation of the electrical networks and the characteristics of the control systems, to evaluate their impact on the electricity quality indicators.
Required prior and related subjects: prerequisites: Electric networks; Electric machines; Electrical parts of stations and substations; Electrotechnical power systems; related and the following: Automation of electrical networks; Relay protection of electrical networks; Stability of power systems; Computer analysis of power systems modes.
Summary of the subject: Features of operation of the power system. The need to analyze the modes of electrical systems and their regulation devices. Power Management Hierarchy. Man in the control system. General characteristics of electrical networks and systems and their modes. Classification of electrical networks and systems. Modes of electrical networks and systems. Tasks and methods of analysis of modes of electrical systems. Classification of automatic control devices. Excitation of synchronous machines. Voltage regulation with capacitors and synchronous compensators. Voltage regulation by shunt reactors, static thyristor compensators. Voltage regulation at substation. Automatic frequency control in the system and at the power plant. Automatic control of power flows.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory and calculation works, oral questioning (40%); • final control - exam: written and oral form (60%).
