Мета вивчення дисципліни: To acquaint students with the theoretical foundations, chemistry and kinetics of polymer synthesis, technological design of processes, properties of polymers and their solutions.

The ability to use the provisions and methods of fundamental sciences to solve professional problems.
Learning outcomes: • know the principles, chemistry and kinetics of radical and ionic processes of polymerization, polycondensation and synthesis of oligomers; • know the theoretical foundations and principles of technological processes of polymerization and polycondensation; • know the physico-chemical basics of polymer solutions, fractionation and determination of polymer molecular weights; • know the chemical and physical properties of high molecular weight compounds; • be able to justify the choice of optimal technological parameters of processes

Summary of the subject: Principles, mechanism and kinetics of radical and ionic processes of polymerization, polycondensation and synthesis of oligomers
Опис: Classification and nomenclature of macromolecular compounds. Radical, ion (cationic and anionic) polymerization, mechanism and kinetics of reactions. Ionic-coordination polymerisation. Copolymerization. The ability of monomers to homo- and copolymerization. Thermodynamics of polymerization. Polycondensation. Basic laws of equilibrium and nonequilibrium polycondensation. The synthesis of oligomers. Modification of polymers. Structure and properties of macromolecular compounds. Macromolecular solutions. Fractionation of polymers. Degradation of the polymers. Polymers molecular weight determination. Basic principles of polymerization technological processes. Polymerization in mass, solutions, suspensions, emulsions and in gas phase. Basic principles of polycondensation. Polycondensation in the melt, solutions, emulsions and in the gas phase. Interphase polycondensation.
Assessment methods and criteria: The main methods of knowledge diagnosis are: current (PC) and semester control (SC), which is carried out from educational material, the scope of which is determined by the work program of the discipline. Current control is carried out during lectures and laboratory classes in order to check the level of assimilation of theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of the student. PC is conducted in the form of: written and oral control and defense of laboratory work. Semester control is conducted in the form of an exam (EC). The exam is a form of SC of the results of the student's studies in the academic discipline for the semester.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: • Writing reports on laboratory work (30%) • Final control (70% control event, exam): written-oral form (70%)
