Мета вивчення дисципліни: acquisition of knowledge by students about the formation and main characteristics of the composition of natural and wastewater, familiarization with the theoretical foundations of methods of water preparation and water purification of various quality for its further use for economic and drinking needs and in the national economy, use of the acquired knowledge in the following practical activities taking into account modern scientific equal.
Завдання: The ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems of chemical technology and engineering during professional activity or in the process of learning, which involves the application of certain theories and methods of chemistry, chemical technology and engineering and are characterized by the complexity and uncertainty of conditions.
Learning outcomes: As a result of studying the academic discipline, the student must be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: 1. to determine the main indicators of water quality and safety; 2. develop skills and abilities to independently perform laboratory experiments and generalize experimental facts; 3. conduct a chemical analysis of the mineralogical composition of water and, based on it, give a description of the source of water supply; 4. to propose methods and technological schemes of water preparation for economic and drinking use according to the characteristics of natural water sources; 5. choose and justify the methods and technological schemes for the preparation of process water; 6. assess the possibility of the occurrence of harmful and toxic substances; 7. propose methods of cleaning sewage from toxic impurities and ways of utilization and disposal of waste; 8. choose and calculate the amount of reagents used to prepare water.

Summary of the subject: The role of water on Earth and its use in everyday life and industry are highlighted. The basic physical and chemical characteristics of natural and wastewater are outlined. The theoretical principles of water treatment processes are considered. The theoretical foundations of water clarification processes are presented: settling, filtering and centrifugation. The process of coagulation of water impurities, the characteristics of coagulants and flocculants, as well as the technological principles of the coagulation process are considered in detail. The main processes of water preparation are highlighted: disinfection, softening, desalination, desalination, stabilization of water and biochemical methods of cleaning it from harmful impurities. The principles of choosing water treatment methods are presented, as well as the comparative technical and economic characteristics of methods for removing various impurities from water.

Assessment methods and criteria: Writing reports from laboratory works, verbal questioning, and control work (30%); • Final control (70% control measure, examination): writing-verbal form (70%)

Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 00–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
