Learning outcomes: Integral Competence (INT): The ability to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the field of professional legal activity or in the learning process, which involves the application of legal doctrines, principles and legal institutions and is characterized by complexity and uncertainty. The study of the discipline involves the formation and development of students of general competencies: GC1. Ability to abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis. GC13. Ability to preserve and multiply moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society based on understanding the history and patterns of law, its place in the general system of knowledge about nature and society and in the development of society, technology. Special (professional) competencies of the specialty: SC3. Respect for human honor and dignity as the highest social value, understanding of their legal nature. SC4. Knowledge and understanding of international human rights standards, provisions of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as well as the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. SC5. Ability to apply knowledge of the principles and content of institutions of public international law, as well as private international law. SC13. Ability to critically and systematically analyze legal phenomena and apply the acquired knowledge in professional activities. SC16. Ability to logical, critical and systematic analysis of documents, understanding their legal nature and meaning. Program learning outcomes: As a result of studying the discipline, the student must be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: PO2. Analyze social processes in the context of the analyzed problem and demonstrate your own vision of ways to solve it. PO3. Conduct collection and integrated analysis of materials from various sources. PO24. Demonstrate knowledge of legal norms that determine the organization and content of public authorities. PO25. Know the principles and content of institutions of international law. COM4. Explain the nature of certain events and processes with an understanding of the professional and social context.
Required prior and related subjects: Previous subjects: Constitutional Law of Ukraine; Theory of State and Law. Related and the following disciplines: Constitutional Process of Ukraine; State (Constitutional) Law of Foreign Countries; International Private Law.
Summary of the subject: The study of international law is important for lawyers not only because it lays the foundation for understanding the content of international relations, the status of international law subjects and their activities, but also provides practical advice on the ability to conclude international treaties, defend the rights and freedoms of individuals in domestic law order and refer to international law. This subject has structural and logical connections with Theory of State and Law, Constitutional Law, State Law of Foreign Countries, and Private International Law. The purpose of studying the International Law is to introduce students to the features of international law as a specific system of law. The curriculum is designed in view of the features of tasks and activities of the National University Lviv Polytechnic, so while studying this course, students must master the universal regulations on the law of international treaties, succession of states, and protection of human rights. It is required to know the provisions and practice of Ukraine's activities regarding the implementation of the principles and generally accepted rules of international law in the international arena, as well as the implementation of our state's commitments in relations between subjects of international law. International law is a holistic training course. Its study should be consistent and systematic. Successful study of the course of international law involves the apprehension of lecture material by students, its consolidation and deepening during practical (workshop) classes, as well as independent study of regulatory, teaching and scientific literature.
Assessment methods and criteria: Evaluation of student learning results is carried out in accordance with a 100-point score of assessment established at the university. The final assessment of the discipline consists of an assessment of the current control of learning outcomes during the semester and evaluation of learning outcomes during a control event during semester control – exam. The number of points allocated to the current control is 40 points. Examination control – 60 points. Maximum score in scores together for discipline – 100 points.
